Abstract

Introduction.Stress tolerance is highly individual and its level depends on many factors, including personality characteristics, time management, and prioritization.Aim— conduct an assessment the influence of specific factors of professional activity (physical and infection protection, quantity of work with accounting and reporting documentation) on stress resistance after a work shift in emergency medical service employees.Materials and methods. The research was based on the results of a survey of 528 (out of 674) medical stuff of general-purpose mobile emergency medical service teams (paramedics — 347 people; nurses — 50 people; doctors — 131; the predominant age group of respondents from 25 to 40 years, 34.3% (34.1–34.5) — men, 65.7% (65.5–65.9) — women, average work experience is 15.1 (14.92–15.28) years, the most pronounced decrease in stress resistance is observed with work experience over 10 years). Stress resistance was assessed after a work shift using the standardized Cohen–Williansson method.Results. Analysis of the relationship between stress resistance and high and medium levels of physical and infectious protection (r=0.125; r=0.012 and r=0.217; r=0.235, respectively) and low and medium quantity of work with medical documentation (r=0.410; r=0.029) did not reveal any statistically significant correlation (r<0.75). The share of respondents who indicated a low level of protection and a significant volume of work with medical documentation exceeds 23%. Low levels of physical and infectious protection have a pronounced statistically significant positive correlation with stress resistance (r=0.77; r=0.78, respectively) and are markers of low stress resistance (AUC 0.974 and AUC 0.895, respectively). A significant amount of work with reporting and accounting documentation showed a high inverse correlation with stress resilience (r=0.83) and is similarly an important marker of low stress resilience (AUC 0.762).Conclusion. The research demonstrated the risks of reduced stress resilience and identified important social markers for declining this psychological indicator, which will ultimately allow for timely implementation of necessary measures to ensure the stability and productivity of this crucial emergency care structure.
