The famous Leningrad anatomist Alexandra Vasilyevna Shilova and her influence on the development of morphology in Yekaterinburg
Abstract
The article is dedicated to Alexandra Vasilyevna Shilova, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, who was a well-known scientist in the field of human anatomy, a talented teacher, and an active public figure. During the terrible years of the Great Patriotic War, A.V. Shilova remained in besieged Leningrad and in the most difficult conditions headed the work of the departments of normal anatomy of two universities: I.P. Pavlov Leningrad Medical Institute (I LMI) and Leningrad Pediatric Medical Institute (LPMI). Two small teams, consisting of people exhausted by hunger and cold during the blockade years, worked harmoniously and efficiently under the leadership of A.V. Shilova. During the war and peace years, Alexandra Vasilyevna proved herself to be a true patriot, a person devoted to her duty, and an excellent organizer. From 1942 to 1963, she was the head of the Department of Normal Anatomy at the LPMI. Since 1944, A.V. Shilova began to create an educational anatomical museum at LPMI, which is now the pride of this university. The main scientific direction of Alexandra Vasilyevna and the department she heads was the study of the age-related anatomy of the human vascular system, and in this direction Professor A.V. Shilova and her team achieved significant success. February 3, 2025 marked the 130th anniversary of the birth of this remarkable woman. The article shows the main stages of her life and work, her outstanding contribution to the development of Russian morphology, including her personal impact on the development of this science in Yekaterinburg. The professional and personal qualities of Professor A.V. Shilova are reflected. Special attention is paid to her heroic work in besieged Leningrad, which is especially important on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Victory of our people over the fascist invaders.
