Saint Petersburg City Budgetary Healthcare institution “City Hospital N 26” is 50 years old!

The article presents the history of the creation, development and current activities of the St. Petersburg city budgetary Healthcare Institution “City Hospital N 26”. On November 23, 1967, the Committee of the Leningrad City Council of Workers’ Deputies made a decision to build a multidisciplinary hospital in the Moskovsky district of Leningrad. During this period, a large-scale reconstruction of the district took place. The territory was actively built up with residential apartment buildings, which required the dismantling of the Warsaw Railway. The significant growth of residents in Moscow and neighboring districts required the creation of additional healthcare facilities to meet the needs of the growing population. In June 1975, the first large multi-specialty hospital N 26 with a capacity of 1,120 beds, being built in Leningrad after the Great Patriotic War, received its patients. The hospital had 17 beds and 10 diagnostic departments, and the principles of specialization, continuity, and early rehabilitation were strictly observed. The development of hospital N 26 took into account the economic, political, medical and demographic changes in the city. The list of types and profiles of medical care was expanded, departments and centers were created and reformed, new advanced medical technologies were introduced, and methods of training of the staff were continuously improved. Over the 50 years of its existence, several million residents of our city have been able to receive highly qualified specialized medical care in a planned and emergency order in the hospital departments. 250–300 patients visit the facility every day, the flow of ambulances does not stop, 50–70 most up to date effective surgical procedures are performed. Today, the St. Petersburg City Budgetary Healthcare Institution “City Hospital N 26” continues its progressive development and remains one of the leading medical organizations providing specialized medical care in inpatient settings. For all 50 years, the hospital has ensured the key priority — a high level of medical care.
